Since its opening in 2001, for over 10 years of time, Leehwaik Gallery has become one of the most influential galleries in Korea. Leehwaik Gallery now represents leading figures in the Korean contemporary art with exhibitions and promotes artists to galleries and dealers worldwide. Koo Sung-Soo, Lee Jung-Eun: Floral Blossom

2017.5.24 – 6.13.
Leehwaik Gallery presents the works of two artists who reproduced flowers in different ways. In this exhibition, we hope the audience can refresh their emotions from the works based on the greenery and nature of spring blossom.Koo Sung-Soo creates a photograph of a relief, which is made of a wild flower and then painted on. Lee Jung-Eun produces oriental painting of flowers and objects with the traditional technique of oriental painting. The smooth surface of photography and traditional, oriental painting will harmonize together on the first and second floor space of Leehwaik Gallery.

Curator’s Note
LEEHWAIK GALLERY has prepared an exhibition of two remarkable artists Koo Sung-Soo and Lee Jung-Eun with the concept of floral blossom of spring. Koo Sung-Soo is well known for his photograph work called photogenic drawing series which even covers the ways of painting and sculpture. He creates a photograph by producing wild flowers as a relief and paints them as like as the flowers then takes pictures of the reproduced flowers to make the final work. However, Lee Jung-Eun produces oriental painting work in a classic way, which draws flowers and objects with the traditional technique of oriental painting. The smooth surface of photography and the classic oriental paper work are different in kind but will harmonize together with a spring blossom of flowers.
